Greetings everyone from the beautiful countryside of Dyersville, Iowa!! The ride today was another real easy one, which is a nice break on the legs, I must say. :) Just a few minor hills as we get closer to the river, but the majority of our climbing will happen tomorrow as we head to Bellevue, our final destination. Three teammates and I made today our "leisure day" which meant we spent more time in our pass through towns then we do riding in between the towns. I am so thankful it just rained hard last night and cleared up early this morning so we didn't have to deal with being wet all day. I also didn't feel the rush to get in right away, since we didn't really have the afternoon heat to deal with that we have had earlier on in the ride.
Highlights of the ride today: Breakfast burrito in Lamont and a stop at Mr. Pork Chop (Paul the Pork Chop guy retires after today). We were 6 or so miles from Dyersville when we passed a homemade sign along the road that read "Go Wartburg" written all over it along with our team name - the Knight Riders. Thank you to whoever made that sign! I ended up pulling over at the last minute so I could get a picture of it. I will be able to post pictures when I get back to Waverly tomorrow afternoon,
As I mentioned earlier, we have the most climb tomorrow on our ride. We will be climbing 3000 feet, but I am hoping the hills are rolling to make it as easy on the legs as possible. :)
Well, I am off to find some dessert -- as Bri pointed out, we eat quite a bit on this ride. It will be difficult to get used to not eating every hour. In fact, I am so used to putting on my cycling clothes and sunscreen first thing in the morning and getting out and riding. I am also worried that I may show up to work on Monday morning looking for the pancake guy!!!
We should be in fairly early to Bellevue tomorrow, and then we are heading back to Waverly. Our support drivers have been absolutely AMAZING on this ride!! Thank you so much Marv, Rick, Terry, and Bob for spending the week with us. Without them, this wouldn't be possible. I would also like to thank all of our host stays for their wonderful hospitality. Wartburg pride is running high!
I will post again when we return to Waverly.
Thanks for being a part of RAGBRAI XXXV with Team Knight Riders!
